HP Mode?

I brushed through the manual, and I haven't received Barry's book via rebate yet, so I was wondering what "HP Mode" under AV/IN OUT SETUP does? It's options are Live and recording....

thanks

HP stands for headphones. The options allow you to monitor the sound directly in live mode. ie. you are listening to the input signal being passed straight through to the HP output. The recording mode allows you to monitor what is being recorded on P2 or tape. ie. confidence monitoring, you listen to the signal after the record head. There is usually a slight delay in this mode so if you are standing near the subject being recorded you will hear their voice live in the room and then the headphone signal will be slightly later. Although a bit annoying at times this mode is what you should monitor.
