HOYA vs. B+W

i have this one. it works great, and thats a good deal on it because i bought it directly from tiffen and it cost me a little over $100. i have never used a filter better than this. i would say get it? what are you planning on using it for?

The B+W filters are going to give you the most polarization as well as the least light loss. Since they were bought out by Schneider they are using the same technology as the Schneider filters. (Basically B+W is Schneider's brand for screw in filters, while Schneider uses its own name for drop in filters (4x4s, 4x5.65s ect)

The difference in filters between linear and circular polarizers has mainly to do with older still cameras with Auto focus and metering systems. Since they used to read the light coming through the lens off a half silvered mirror or reflex mirror, if the light was already linearly polarized it would give false reading.
Since the DVX100 does not fall in this category you can use Linear or Circular polarizers with it.

The main difference between a Hoya $70 filter and more expensive polarizers is the amount it can polarize the light, the amount of light loss that you get when putting on the polarizer as well as the anti reflective coatings they use.
