Are those 72mm or did you need to step-down? Look pretty decent to me.

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

72mm, no step down needed. The rings themselves are pretty thick, which create vignetting at Z00, but hey, they were cheapo... I'm sure a quality one would eliminate that.....

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

nice dude.
I tried some closeups with a cheapy x4 mag filter. But I could only get about 4-6 inches away from the subject. Anything closer I couldn't get to focus.
How close were you to these subjects with your +4? It's crazy how these zoom lenses can get out of focus at the movement of a centimeter.

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

most of these were 1cm away fromt he lense. I could basically touch them with the lenses. This is partially due to the width of the rings on these particular ones.

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

How far were you zoomed in? It shouldn't be possible to focus so close with so little diopter power! Very interesting. A +10 would theoretically only allow you to get just under 3 inches from the lens with the lens at full telephoto.

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

when touching it with lens, i wasnt' zoomed all the way in. So a +10 would put me 3" from it zoomed all the way in? NIce!!! Is there any limit to it?

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

Argh! Of course! Smaller focal lengths will start closer to the lens to begin with so you can focus closer (thus the 1cm or so). My bad! I was just rather curious how that worked!

Yep, it should put you just under 3 inches. Is there any limit as to how much power you can add to the lens? Yes and no. You can keep adding lenses but at some point it will be impossible to shorten the focal length of the camera further. I don't know off the top of my head how much power that would be though.

Re: Hoya Close-Up set ~70$

Oh, right! What I'm saying is that once you hit the lens you can't go any further :D. I just don't know how much power that would require at telephoto.

a local cam shop. they were 74 +tax, but i traded in some old darkroom equip and got 10$ credit. :)
