How tough is the HVX200?

Hello-

I have been getting some stock nature footage with my HVX but it is getting quite expensive in gas traveling to remote spots. So I had an idea to use my Dual-Sport motorcycle to get from place to place. It's got luggage on the sides and can easily carry the camera.

But - I'll be travelling quite frequently on gravel roads and the camera will be subjected to a lot of bumps and vibrations.

I was hoping that if I provided enough padding and shock absorption, I could ride to more remote locations with less expense.

Is this something I should stay away from or is the camera built strong enough to handle the bumps?

thanks all...

There are no moving parts in the camera (other than the lens) so it should stand up well with proper support. Look for some posts from Marc Singer about his experiences in Iraq with the camera and how it withstood the concussion impacts from M1A1 tanks, etc.

I spent 2 months in the remote swamp where our transportation was dirt doads and boat rides. The camera is tough when it comes to vibration, but be warned it is very sensitive to moisture. That is your biggest danger by far. Make certain that you are well prepared, always carry it in a waterproof case (I use storm case) and include lots of desiccant (silica packs). Try not to carry with sweaty hands as even that can get in the handle electronics and void your warantee. (Warantee does not cover moisture damage)

See this is a question I had too...I have the pelican case with wheels on it and was transporting it by subway around NYC... and our sidewalks are not the best - I was worried the bumping would cause it harm [or at least the OIS system...that thing still scares me even though I know it shouldn.t]. I.ve had no problems with the camera since taking it around, but I do constatnly worry about it...

I have been doing almost nothing for a year but hiking strenuously with this camera in a backpack. It has performed extremely well at all times and I don't baby it. Some may recall that I dropped it into a river in Sedona while on a tripod. Yes it needed some repair but the camera was saved and sustained relatively little electronic damage, epecially considering that ir was ON at the time.
ENJOY!

I want the HPX 500 now!
