How to work with GF2 video on PC (footage at 1080p/30fps, but put in 1080i/60fps)?

I've read people recommend progressive footage for web based video over interlaced.

The GF2 takes footage at 1080p/30fps, but is put in a 1080i/60fps wrapper......... This confuses me.

How are you supposed to work with this video on a PC? And at the end of the day, will the finished video product be 1080p/30fps or 1080i/60fps?

If you put 30P (over 60i) in a progressive project the NLE should automatically ignore the duplicate frames and it will indeed be 30P video. 24P over 60i gets more complicated, but MANY cameras just record their 30P the way the GF2 does because there are no weird pulldown issues...

The finished product will be whatever format you decide to output (render) from your NLE. For example shoot 1080i/60, output 720p/30.

Good luck

If I get a new camera, then I'm thinking about getting Sony Vegas. How would you make sure the software, in a new project, recognizes the footage as 30P, not 60i?

Sony Vegas has support for 30P projects, as do most recent NLEs. If you create a 30P timeline it should treat the footage as progressive automatically.
