How to View Camera Settings During Clip Playback??

While playing back clips on camera LCD or external TV my old camcorder let me cycle through quite a range of data to show on screen from just date and time and position on tape (m/s/f) to showing camera settings ( Auto/manual; shutter speed; iris; gain; and white balance setting). There was a Data/Code button I just pushed on camera to access various levels of data to view on LCD/TV. While viewing clip I could then see what camera settings gave what results.

How do I do that with the HMC40?

After reading through PDF manual (playback section) I can only find how to display date/time/position on clip (seconds). On LCD screen I can also show Clip Number; Start TC; Start UB; Date/Time; Time Zone; Duration of Clip and Format by pushing W/T buttons after selecting clip on LCD. I have not done anything with UB yet--do I need to set that up somehow to be able to view camera settings while watching clip?

Short answer: you can't. That information isn't stored in the AVCHD recording format.

That feature was part of the DV tape standard, but AVCHD doesn't have it.

Now I know what AVCHD abbreviates: All Valuable Camera History Deleted.

Since I still don't understand features like metadata and so forth, even though I can't view settings, are they stored anywhere in some digital code on card that is accessible somehow? Or does my executive production director (aka wife) need to write down setting info I see while shooting?
