How to video with the Panasonic Gh2

Please help. I am the owner of Canon 5d, Canon 55od and Panasonic AF101. I just bought the Panasonic Gh2 and I can not playback any video either in my camera or in my PC. Is it so difficult to make this camera work for video? By the way for photos the camera works okay.

I don't really know what to say; perhaps your new GH2 is defective. I can't imagine why a video clip recorded with the camera does not play back in the camera. Either you have hacked the camera with one of those hacks that does not play on camera, or you have yet to learn how to play back a video in the camera. Have you read the manual about playing a video clip in the camera?

Thanks for your reply aljudy.
I just bought the camera from Jessops at the airport in London. For me was very strange not to have the video playback. The sundisk card I use wasn't formated and maybe the reason. I went back to find the format section and I couldn't find it either. So I will try today again. Do you think that is the reason?

formatting the card in any camera is the first thing i do lol....glad you figured it out. probably not the best idea to go swapping cards between canon and pana without formatting =)

I think the camera automatically formats, or reports it can't write to the card, so I don't think that's the problem. It does sound like you need more time to get familiar with this very complex camera. I have owned GH1, and now GH2, for almost a year and I am still learning something new about these cameras every once in a while.
EDIT: just saw that you are now working and that's great!

Thank you guys,

Much appreciate for your respond.
Now I am looking forward to the look I must use with that camera.
Do you think the best is to hack the camera with it's 176mb bit rate before do any test?

Got my GH2 about four days ago. I have forty years experience operating, programming and fixing hardware, and this one is a beast, but one that yields wonderful rewards when you finally dope it out. It is a steep hill to climb, and the first steps are the hardest.

I had the exact same problem. Let me explain how I got it working.

First I filled my bathtub full of water, then I soaked the camera for about an hour. Once I knew the sensor was clean, I put it in the oveN to dry @450 degrees for 45 minutes. But I wanted to mke sure it was dry before I turned it on, because I didn't want to fry it. I put it in the microwave for thirty minutes. The amazing part is the radiation from the microwave oven enabled the hack to work at 7000 mbits. My camera is xray, 3d, and 20k res now. GH2 ROCKS

I like it Maranfilms,

Do you think we need 7000 mbits or go down to 40 mbits
Anyone knows where to find and how to hack? and how much to pay for it?

i offer this service for $250. Let me know if you want your camera hacked. You simply mail it to me, and in about a month you will have it back hacked and fully tested... Al

i was concerned about the hack as well. but did it first time in less than 15mins couple weeks ago. 44mb, then jumped to Sage's 88mb. I'm tempted on GOP1 but I don't think my cards will hack it.

Download the following
- PTools 3.52
- Firmware GH2_V10
- find a .ini hack setting that you like and follow those setting replacements in PTools.
- load into GH2 and start using hack.

is it possible to hack an then have the choice on camera between gop1 gop3... or 44mb, 88mb, 176mb......

tnanks

The recommendation is to have small cards handy, like 2gb/4gb card each preloaded with the hack firmware on it. Load the card of choice and update to camera. then store away. You'd be able to do this on the fly with that 4min upload time anywhere.

It'd be interesting if wedding videographers used something like 44mb or 88mb during day, then switched to 176mb by reception/night hours.

say you have 3 different 4gb SD cards. load 44mb on card A, 88mb on card B and 176 on card C. just load the card to your GH2 and load it.

and yes, approx 4mins... I'm not sure exactly, I just start the firmware load and continue with what I'm doing and find it finished no more than 5mins later.

Good luck!
