How to use your freshly Hacked GH1...

Ok, I followed the instructions here to load the hacked firmware, but I'm not totally sure that it successfully loaded to the camera, (with the options i selected) and second, if it did the menu doesn't look a whole lot different than the stock menu. So, how do you select the higher bit rate video recording?

are the higher bit rate options available under the patches end user settings or the

patches for testers?

Has anyone made a video tutorial perhaps?

Thanks,

A.J.

I'm not saying that this to be mean so please do not take this the wrong way, but before you applied the hack you should have understood how it works. This, again, is not to be mean it is simply something which I'm posting for any future gh1 hackers who may be reading this thread (so in many ways this is not directed just at you).

The hack only changes the amount of data that is recorded, you will not be given a new menu option for recording higher bitrates.

DO NOT!!!! Fool with patches for testers if you do not know what you are doing!!!!! Those patches may harm your camera!!!!

Please read the FAQ and look around the forum before you attempt to hack your gh1/gf1 with the ptool firmware patch.

All the steps, answers, and user trial and error are well discussed on these forums and will be found simply by using the search feature.

You may want to search for the perfect project as it has the most stable settings. I hope this helps.

Not to mention there is already a wonderful video tutorial posted on here. I followed it, and hacked my cam in like 10 minutes.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have watched the video tutorial here, but the ptool version used in the video is different than the current ptool version.

I see you pointed out that the menu doesn't look that much different the stock menu, but that the bitrate changes are there. is there a map or chart explaining which settings will give you which bitrate and so on?

I have done quite a bit of reading here on the forum, but the problem is that each thread gives you bits and pieces of information, the faq was good, but didn't have all the info that i was looking for.

a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
A.J.

probably best you just keep on reading. the information didn't just come to us, we all learned from each other, directly through these forums.

I had the same thoughts after hacking my camera. The menu is the exact same, etc, etc. But you'll need to pull your footage into a program like quicktime or whatever you use for your NLE to check the bitrate and color information (MJPEG 4.2.2.). It would be cool if there was a one stop shop for all information about this hack.. But some people dont want to sift through pages and pages of info for something that only takes a few minutes. So keep experimenting and post your results!

Use the video tutorial. The only thing you have to do is ignore the "limiting bitrate" part. Everything else is done EXACTLY the same as the video.
