#!/bin/bash
# http://irishjesus.wordpress.com/2010/05/28/hvxp2mxf-media-in-linux/
# this website got me almost all the way there
#
# after getting freemxf from freemxf.org, then ./configure, make, sudo make install. this will get mxfsplit working which is a part of mxflib
#
# then you will need to make this script executable, chmod +x ./mxf-fixit.sh
#
# next, enter the following command, replacing the directory name with the real one
# there can be no whitespaces in the name - more code is needed for whitespaces and I don't know how to do that
# find /media/P2-card/CONTENTS/VIDEO -name "*.MXF" -exec ./mxf-fixit.sh {} \;
# this will make new MXF files in the folder where this script is run that are readable by FFMPEG and others, including Kdenlive, with no loss of quality and will counter-intuitively include the audio!
# you can use ffplay myp2media.mxf to play the resulting files with ffplayer if you want a quick preview
STREAM=`mxfsplit -v -m $1 | grep “File=” | cut -c 31-52`
mv *.Stream "`basename $1 .MXF`.MXF"
sleep 1
Great work, loopduplicate! I had used the tools on freemxf.org before, but having a way to automate their use is very handy!
One of the items on my "todo" list for the GNU/Linux distro we maintain (Nexradix) is to add proper, GUI-driven support for Panasonic MXF formats. This will help quite a bit!
cd /directory_where_you_saved_source_files
./configure

sudo make install
cd /destination/directory

do
STREAM=`mxfsplit -m $i | grep “File=” | cut -c 31-52`
mv *.Stream "`basename $i .MXF`converted.MXF"
done
