Hi guys. Can someone tell me how to use a canon fd m43 adapter and canon fd lens. I mean, after I put it on, how do I tell the camera to shoot with it since as I understand it, it won't just work from the get go, there's something you have to switch in options menus.
Thanks.

Seek and yee shall find. (You're getting hot by the way.)

"Shoot without lens".

Last item in the last page in the Custom Menu. You can leave it set this way permanently, since it doesn't interfere with using auto lenses when set this way.

Of course, this has been discussed in various FAQs & threads here, but it can be hard to find little nuggets like this. Enjoy.

thank you very much.

1) Mount the Panasonic kit lens.
2) Turn on the camera.
3) Set: Custom Menu - Page 5 - Shoot W/O Lens - On.
4) Turn off the camera.
5) Now you can mount other lenses.

stoneinapond: thank you for your post. with your help the sky is truly the limit for me.

I'm glad you took it with the humor it was delivered with. Peter is always the gentleman and I counted on him parting the clouds.

Great lenses by the way. Hope you enjoy them!

thanks ya'll. Just a few more questions. I just got 2 FD lenses from ebay one.

I've never in my life operated a manual lens before nor a canon FD lens.

When I turn the aperture ring, I look into the lens and the aperture on one of them doesn't seem to open or close. However on the other one at first it did and now it doesn't. I have no idea if they both happen to be defective (both from different sellers and both sellers listed them as perfect condition etc etc) or I am using it wrong. Both lenses on their apperture ring seem to have a little metal button ....should I be pressing this or how am I supposed to be using this? I'm completely clueless....LOL. Obviously neither of these comes with an instruction manual...

Yeah, using those lenses can be a little confusing. I don't have an absolute answer for you, but the adapter has to be on the lens for you to be able to adjust the aperture. The little metal tab has to be engaged the right way, and I still have to give it several tries before I get it right. But you will get it after a few tries.

There should be a long thin pin inside the adapter and there should also be TWO guide marks on the outside of the adapter (depending on which one you purchased). You have to align the outlined only marking of the adapter to the lens red dot then turn the adapter to the solid colored mark. Basically you've got to get that long thin pin inside the adapter to engage the aperture spring lever of the lens. If you don't the aperture stays wide open only. Hope that that was clear its difficult to explain because there are so many adapters with different markings.

The adapter i bought has a very loose detent open/lock ring that is meant to hold the aperture lever engaged with a pin. I have glued mine in the locked position so the the lens aperture ring will function as designed and not be partially open.. You can still mount and unmount the lens but you have to engaged the lever with the adapter pin first before aligning the red dots and twisting.

Actually i don't see the need for the lock/open ring at all, it could have been just a fixed pin.

My adapter is this one.
