How to transcode F3 S-Log to ProRes HQ?

>and it's not a workflow that the $300 Apple FCPX was designed to handle. It really isn't.

Don't put too much into the price point. I think FCP7 was designed to handle it, right? I just happen to have some DPS shots I want to transcode for some tests, thats all.

Gluetools doesn't work with FCPX. I doubt there is any chance for DPX with FCPX at all (yet?).

Why don't you stay ProRes 444? It can hold as much contrast as DPX and is lighter. We have compared ProRes 444 with DPX out of the EPIC with REDlogFilm and decided it's not worth the extra demands on space and speed.

If someone really needs DPX in the end (like film-out) you can always use Color or DaVinci Resolve to get that.

No. Final Cut Pro 7 does not by default read .DPX files. GlueTools, a third party program with a $399 seat cost fixes this, but FCP7, as shipped, does not read DPX files.

Google informs me there are some relatively cheap ($50 or less) windows based conversion tools out there for .DPX files, as well as at least one free command line interface - but none of these will (to the best of my knowledge) get you a direct transcode to ProRes. It would be, at minimum, a two step process. And I wouldn't rely on it.

Programs that can be used for DPX conversion:
Apple Color
Glue Tools
AJA DPX Converter
Adobe Media Encoder (I beleive)

Continuing the "google is your friend" line of thinking, plug the line below into google and you'll come up with several threads addressing DPX workflow with Color. If you own FCP 7, then you own Color and should take the time to learn to use it if only for this purpose. how to import dpx sequence into apple color

Have no success in Color. Maybe it does not work properly in 10.7

Huh? That makes no sense. The latest version I'm aware of is 1.5.3, as updated by Pro Applications Update 2010-02.

Where do you get version 10.7? Are you talking about the OS-X 10.7?

What version of Color do you have? Shipped with what Final Cut Studio set?
