How to switch from real-time to slow motion?

Hey, I'm trying to figure out a good way to playback some slow motion to make it look like real-time 100% speed 24p footage. For example, a skateboarder coming down a road at 100% speed, until he does a trick and make that 40% slow motion.

I tried doing this once with my HV30. I shot in 60i and made that into smooth 24p slow motion. Then, I tried splitting the clip into two parts and speeding the first part up by 250% (60/24) so it would play at 100%. Even though it played in realtime, it resulted in a very strobe like motion, almost like I did a timelapse.

Is there a better way to to achieve what I'm looking for?

Thanks so much!

You are probably not going to get smooth slow motion using an NLE to do the effect the way you are. A program plugin like Twixtor for After Effects will give a better result.

You could try this where you get your 24p slow motion footage from the 60i footage like you've done in your NLE. Then convert that original 60i footage using a program like DVFilm Maker to 24p at realtime. Then you can bring that 24p slow motion and the 24p realtime converted from Maker together in one 24p timeline and cut where you need to. That should work and look smooth.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Thanks so much!

Premiere Pro has time remapping.
