How to start new video folder on a SD card

I'm frustrated by the fact that my SDHC cards in the AVCCAM Viewer only show one video folder rather than new folders for each clip. This means that each time I want to copy clips to my PC I have to copy all clips rather than just the ones I want. Am I doing something dumb or is that just the way it is. It seams if I can select clips in camera I should be able to control which clips get downloaded to the PC. Thanks for any help!

After a shoot you can rename the PRIVATE folder and then next time you shoot it will recreate the private folder and keep the old folder.

Keep in mind that if you do that, you will not have access to metadata, user and scene files on the road. Of course the same thing happens when you use a new card. Solution is to make sure you move your MEDIAGROUP folder into a PRIVATE folder. These files aren't THAT important anyway, but if you rely on them, a good idea is keeping them on a separate older SD card that's too small for anything else useful.

Barry, I have read and read pages 28-30 in the AVCCAM Viewer operating instructionas and can not find a way to select clips in the video folder. When I click on the video folder the clips (up to 24) show in a separate window however I cant select them individually. What am I missing? Thanx!

The program actually does not let you select specific clips to copy over, only groups of clips that are tied together by playlist files. It seems that "playlists" only get split up when you change recording modes in between clips. So, if you recorded clips at 1080p24 over a month, then 720p60 on the last clip, the software will allow you to copy all of the 1080p24 clips and/or the 720p60 clip. So if you really wanted to divide clips up ahead of time but always recorded the same mode, you could just change the mode, record a 1 second clip, and switch back. I've found its much easier to keep organized by offloading cards after each shoot!

BTW, the only area where you can play with the clips inside of the playlists is in the "editing" section... but you can't do that until you've already copied all the clips over (dumb). So to do what you want to do, you would have to first copy the card to the PC (NOT THROUGH THE SOFTWARE), delete unwanted clips through the camera, copy remaining clips with the software, then restore the card contents and repeat if you need to pick out other clips to copy over.... not worth the trouble.

I've come to realize this software is really not of much use unless you have nothing else. It doesn't even maintain the original files. Always make a direct copy of the card for backup purposes, then use the software as a 2nd if you really need it. I thought the metadata editor was the main thing you needed it for, but you really only need a text editor to do that.

Ah. That I believe is the case, yes. I thought I was selecting individual clips (or, well, more accurately, de-selecting unwanted clips) but yes, they do appear to be groups of clips in a playlist.

Maybe somebody at Panasonic is monitoring this discussion and will make some changes in the Viewer. We can always hope! Thanx for your responses.
