I am not sure why so many people are having difficulty slowing down video. You can click SPEED in one of the top drop down menus I think its in Modify and adjust it from 100% to 50% or you can use the Time Remap tool and slow it down that way. What I have been doing lately is selecting Time Remap in the Motion tab of a clip then adjust the keyframes in the graph to the right. It works perfect for what I needed it for. Yes I was using 24P footage as well.

Slowing down 24p footage in a 29.97 timeline is likely to look *horrible*. I'd suggest you'd get better results if you took the specific shots into a 24p timeline and slowed it down there, and rendered out a 29.97-compatible file, then re-import that into your 29.97 timeline.

i don't use final cut pro but i am doing research on things i can't do in premere pro that i would like to be able to do.

the changeover to final cut pro would be pretty drastic as i have a substantial system and to recreate it with a mac would be a massive undertaking.

that said, i have always wanted to be able to change the speed so that i can go from normal speed to slow motion but not all at once, basically imagine going from 100% speed to 25% speed but over the course of say 2 minutes and then after it played at 25% for half a minute have it speed back up at the same steps in reverse till it is at 100%

can this be done in final cut pro? by chance has anyone here moved from premiere pro to final cut pro?

I've thought about it. It's too bad you can't do that in Premiere. Since I use After Effects though it's not a problem for me (as AE can do it). If you don't use AE often (or ever) then Premiere is crippled in some respects. :(
