how to shoot to make PAL and NTSC video

Hi, i'm new to P2 series and i have some question about how to manage a project that has to be broadcast in PAL and NTSC countries.

Our project is http://www.marchamundial.org/, we will move in 90 countries in 90 days and the shoots will be broadcast in many countries. We will have 4 panasonic p2 camera (170 or 171?).

The problem is how to shot and how easily convert to PAL and NTSC. Still we have not selected if we will work with 170 or 171 camera.

We will prefeer to use Avid MC.

Thank you
Federico

You can use a program like DVFilm Atlantis that will allow you to convert from Pal to NTSC and vice versa.

The first thing that comes to mind with regard to ease and fewest steps would be to shoot 50i PAL and use Atlantis to convert to 60i when you need NTSC, but you will have to watch for light flicker when shooting NTSC in a PAL country or vice versa.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Usually it's easier to drop frames instead of add them. If you have to pick a format, you're probably better off with 30/60 frames. You could make an argument for shooting in 24, since that converts well to both, and viewers are used to the look of it.

The Pana170 shoot in 1080 24PA that is a pulldown of 60i, is it correct?

From the 24PA is easy to go back to the 60i, Avid may import it directelly in a project 60i.

To pass to PAL from 24p should be possible by simply sped up by 4% to 25 frame/s. While this is usually not noticed in the picture it causes a slightly noticeable increase in audio pitch by about one semitone. I know it teorically but i don't know how to do it with Avid.

Thank you
