How to shoot SD with EX1

Hello

Im thinking of buying the EX1.. fell in love with it's sharp resolution.
I own a HVX200 with firestore.. Shall i keep it to shoot SD or can the EX1 handle it too.. ?
I was thinking HVX is a kick ass camera for SD.. DVCPRO50 50 mbs with 4:2:2!!! :)

But if i could find a routine to shoot sd with the ex1..

I know the EX1 doesnt shoot SD.. but does it at least have a visual grid on the viewfinder that lets you know where SD ends and HD starts? or would I have to tape the monitor or viewfinder with 4:3 frame-edge lines?

Just need to know if i should have both cameras.. One for SD shoots one for HD shoots..

Thanks.. Love this site! Makes owning a camera extra fun like the Zzap64 did for my Commodore aaah good old days :)

heheh yeah crash was cool too. speccy had fascinating tricks to put colous in their graphics.. was kinda fun to see the colors blend when characters crossed each other. but back to the ex1 ahem... anyone knows if it has 4:3 border lines on the viewfinder in case i want to do some compositioning for sd sometimes?

I recently did a SD project shot on HDV and we composed for 4:3 and then digitized as a DV downconvert (centerpunch, cropped). It looked great. I was wondering the same thing about the EX1 though, for versatility.

You can output SD from the SDI port. Edge crop, squeeze, letterbox. This is available in both camera and media modes.

Also, there are several markers including 4X3.

Thanks guys for all the feedback.. but all i really need to know is: does the viewfinder have a border or superimposed line or anything that shows me where to frame 4:3 is when shooting in 16:9 ? Like tv-safe grid or something.. it would help with the compositions in a shoot.

Well, I would not call 4:3 regular anymore. Heck, walk into Walmart and you will have to look hard to find 4:3 sets.

Could anyone please answer this one question? Does the Viewfinder or lcd on the EX1 give any indication where the frame limits of 4:3 are? (to aid in shooting for later downconversion) Or would i have to put gaffers tape on the monitor?
Also, by the way: channels broadcasting HD where i live : 1 SD: 58
Even though everyone is buying hd tvs we're still a few years away for all-hd tv..

This question is important to me because it decides whether or not i keep my hvx200 or sell it when buying the ex1. Thinking of keeping my hvx for 4:3 and ex1 for 16:9 shoots. UNLESS ex1 makes it easy for me to FRAME the camera looking at 4:3 borders.

You don't want sd markers you just want 4:3 markers is that correct? How are you delivering your SD stuff? Are you transferring onto tape yourself?

Thank you Joeee.. first guy to answer directly :D Yes, all i needed to know is if there are any 4:3 markers. I dont know how to export to Sd yet, havent bought it yet :)

Philip, im a big fan of your work!! amazing stuff you did with the EX1 and Letus Extreem!! Does the Extreem lose more light than the Brevis? Is it true the EX1 doesn't have true progressive 1080P ? :(

Its funny I always thought my HVX200 footage looked soft or blurry.. i always blamed myself until i saw it next to the ex1 footage.. :D
