Can you all please tell me what settings to adjust to shoot black and white with my camera.
I'm not at home and have none of my books or info.

Thank you!

JJ

You CAN shoot/light for higher contrast, though, so your shots don't look flat and boring when you bring them into post.

Remember that you can change the viewfinder on the DVX100A to display B&W. It'll give you a great idea of what your image will look like after you work your magic in post.

Now thats good to know. Thanks to you both.

I'm doing a night shooting on a very brightly lit street with tons of neon and very colorful shops both in what they sell and the store lighting that spills onto the street. It's literally one great, funky shop after another on both sides of the steet. It's Saint Mark's Place here in Manhattan. I'm doing it in color but also wanted to get it in B&W. It's going to be completely available light. I did some testing for exposure a while ago at night and was surprised how good the DVX was in this type situation.

Anyway, Thanks for the info.

I have not seen anyone mention it here but also in your art direction plan your color. If you talk to people who saw old Black and White TV sets they were gaudy and blinding to the eye.

Shoot tests with color charts ( I picked up paint chips at Home Depot) we shot in color then went to final cut and tested various ways to created black and white. Looking at the results we then picked colors for costumes based around the test colors.

We actually shot on 16mm color film so had more latitude to work with but I think knowing what color objects will show up in your final project will server you very well.
