Do I have to choose any particualar settings for the camera, or simply shoot for long period of time and speed it up in post?

How to shoot a time lapse?

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

Look in the manual under "interval recording". It'll explain the settings for doing time-lapse photography, including the different intervals you can set, etc.

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

It really depends on what you want to shoot. My general rule is that if I want to shoot a timelapse whose real duration is under an hour, I'll just shoot it in real time and speed it up in post. You get total smoothness that way.

If it's over an hour, then I go with the interval timer. The settings depend on what I am shooting. If something is moving quite constantly then I'll use the shortest interval and if it's something slower, like a flower opening for instance, I'll go with a much longer interval.

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

Barry, thanks for such quick response; Please correct me if wrong. Should I do the following to shoot a time lapse?

MENU > RECORDING SETUP> INTERVAL REC. set this to ONE-SHOT> get out of menu and start recording?

If that is correct; Do I need any special settings for capturing? How about in Post?

disjecta: Thanks for writing, I always look forward for your replies, I appreciate them.
Can you please tell me what is a Shorter and Longer interval? What are the numerical settings for them?

Thanks,
Roman

I don't have the camera in front of me at the moment, so if I get this wrong hopefully someone would correct me, but I believe you set interval rec to ON, rather than ONE-SHOT. Then set REC TIME and INTERVAL TIME to whatever times are appropriate.

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

I also don't have the camera in front of me but you can figure it out by looking at the options. I believe the shortest interval is:

Recording time: 0.5 seconds (meaning each time the camera records, it will be for 1/2 second)
Interval time: 15 seconds (The camera will engage in record mode every 15 seconds, for 1/2 second duration, in this case)

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

There's been several threads explaining how to shoot time lapse. Do a search of the words "time lapse" and you shall find. ;)

Re: How to shoot a time lapse?

Awesome, you guys are very helpful.

Hans: Prior to making this post I did a sear of "time laps" and read most if not all the info I found and was not satisfied w/ what I was looking for.

Thank you all... I would experiment a lot and will show some stuff for comments.

Yeah, the search functionality on this board isn't the best. The info you were looking for, based on your questions above, is buried in here somewhere.

Btw - If you didn't read the posts about using a digital camera instead of your dvx for time lapse, I would recommend doing so.
