As in i have no attachments other than just the camcorder,
no boom mic.
just the mic coming from my HDR-SR10
any good and easy way to do this?

sorry but there is no way to do this.
Figure something else out.
Hate to be a party pooper but it don't work that way.

ANY kind of mic you can attach to the camera and get close to the actors will be better than on camera mic.

Other than that you can try shooting with a superwide angle lens and shoot your whole movie in wideangle lens closeups so you can have the camera mic one foot from the actors.

but that will be very unlfattering and all your shots will look the same and have nothing to do with the story.

Yes - shoot a silent movie and don't use the mic. at all - it will work better than using the in-built mic.

I don't have a camera and can't afford to rent one. None of my friends have cameras either. What is the best way for me to make my movie?

Sure, write a script where all the dialog is extreme close-up in hushed tones like golf commentators. Or the on-screen sync dialog is the actor's reaction or opinion of what is happening around him. Or phone/radio conversations where the POV switches back and forth between the two people. Talking to their hand-held communications device; either sci-fi like Star Trek, or modern "reality" like teens on their video cell phones, or construction workers on their Nextel Direct Connect cell phones, etc.

Clearly, it would only work for a single, specialty production, but not as a permanent solution to lack of proper equipment. And admittedly, a novelty that would require writing to the limitations of the production equipment, etc. And it would take advantage of the grainy/gritty/echoey "reality" and "shaky-cam" production styles that audiences have become accustomed to. Perhaps this is a question for the Screenplay/Writing forum? :)

Dude don't feel discouraged... all the best movies are made with only the camera mic.

Um, you do have at least one attractive and uninhibited "actress"... right?

I would mount the camera on a boom just over the head of the actor. Then rig up a series of mirrors to frame the shot. :D

If you are recording just ambiance(audience laughing, room noise, etc.) for a ambiance track then my pleasure. Even then you should reconsider proper mic techniques. OR you could hire a sound person who can use their equipment without the use of your camera and sync it all later. As mentioned not the way to go(camera mic)

Not sure that's what Jack meant to say... let me take the liberty to rephrase it:

"ANY kind of mic you can detach from the camera and get close to the actors will be better than on camera mic"

At $500 starting for anything worth watching, at least in that class of film... I think a mic setup would be cheaper... heck a camera upgrade as well...

heh heh
well by attach I meant connect, as in in with a mic cable.
:)

Someone told me there is a good DVD that's both basic and advanced and entertaining while being easy to understand which is the best way to learn about Sound for Film and Television. Now if I could only think of the name if it. Hmm ...

I may be speaking blasphemy, but if you haven't made at least a few movies before just don't worry about it. The sound you get from the camcorder won't be professional grade, but you can learn the fundamentals of storytelling which are FAR more important.

There is one way. Record ADR with the cam after the shoot. That is recording the dialogue after you shoot the scenes and edit it together in post.

IFilm, you stepped into the lions den on this and you got what you asked for. Joking aside, you will need to be creative, willing to take a lot of time, and live with the compromises without additional gear. Have fun with it and learn.

The ADR idea is about all you have to get any results at all. This will be a real PITA and your talent will hate you.

Best Regards,
Grant

Actually reading the title more carefully - there is no way to "shoot a movie using just the camcorder mic".

You will have to use the lens :cheesy:

iFilm,

The audio board is a bit more brutal than other places on DVXuser. That's why I hang here, I like being dry gulched.
