How to shoot 2fps

How can I shoot 2fps with the HVX? I tried to do like time lapse stuff today and in my menu the lettering was all blue, and I couldn't do it.

Is that because I was on film-camera mode and not video mode?

I think the best way to do it is to use the frame rate hack. You can shoot time lapses at 2fps and they turn out awesome. Just look up how to do to it, its very simple and easy.

ya, think about it. 2fps is 2 frames per second played back at 24 frames a second = a time lapse or the look of time passing by very quickly

have to record onto p2.
be in video mode.
has to be 720p.
make sure you aren't shooting pn.

2fps scene file hack:

This is not correct. Variable frame rates are also available in 720pN and the camera must be in FILM CAM mode, NOT Video Cam mode for either native or standard progresive recording. The default frame rates don't go down to 2fps so you will have to either modify the scene file via the "hack" or more simply, use the set of variable rates that are on the CD that accompanied the HVX/HPX book if you have it. I have one scene file setup on my 200A consisting of these variable frame rates assigned to each dial position.

DGW, I think jrmiller was referring to INTERVAL recording which has to be in VIDEO CAM mode (manual pg. 47), which is the proper way to do time lapse anyway.

Ahhh, I didn't make that connection...thanks. But then we are not talking about fps, rather we are selecting a time interval of exposure per image captured such as 1 frame or .5 seconds, correct??

Lots of confusion. better to study the Bible (not King James) the other one
HeHaw ....Barry is an adopted Tar Heel now.

Barry Green's book included with the HPX170 Page 150
scene file OPERATION TYPE set to VIDEO CAM. no can do 720pN or 24P

I can't seem to do the hack for the HVX I have since I don't have a slot for SD cards, anyone know how to by-pass this?

Hey guys,

This thread talks about Film vs Video "modes" on the HVX. I assume this is a function not carried over to my HPX170. I've read nothing about that in the manual. So what's the diff between those two modes?

Also, I'm not real clear on Interval recording vs time lapse. Is there a difference?

Thanks
HPX has the same functions. Time lapse is the trick photography to speed up a slow process (like a sunset or a flower opening). It is done by taking pictures at very slow intervals, and playing those pictures back at a faster rate. So, you can accomplish this two ways;

1. Slow down the "frame rate", such as 2 fps (which is a picture every half second), and played back at 30 fps will give you a time compression of 15:1.

2. Take still pictures at each time interval (say 1 pic every 2 secs, or more), which on the HVX/HPX is called INTERVAL recording. You can actually set very long interval. So if you set an interval of 1 hour and shot for thirty hours, you would have thirty frames, which at 30 fps, would play back the 30 hour sequence in one second. As you could surmise, you don't need a movie camera to do long time lapse photography.

Colonel, where do I put the card in my HVX, it does not have a SD slot!

yes the hvx does have a sd card slot, theres a cover over it like all the other inputs. Its right in front of like where you would put the firewire, its a cover you just have to pull off. Don't worry, its there.

yes it does have a sd slot...on the right side of the camera body (looking into the eyepiece). Open the flap on the upper back side (where the remote iris and focus control plug in)..You will see the vertical slot.
