How to search for a converter

hey guys
i have a boom pole that has a 1/2inch (i think) bolt on the end... i am wanting to use it as a tripod with my t2i but obviously the t2i is 1/4inch... what could i use as an ebay search to find a coupling converter with female for the 1/2 inch and then mail for the 1/4... i did 1/2 to 1/4 and looked under cameras and photography it returned 0 results...

went to lowe's today, it was a younger guy and he was not helpful at all... i will go to home depot which is about 20 miles away tomorrow i guess... would love to know exactly what its called so i don't sound like an idiot asking... would rather sound like an idiot to you guys than to the person i am looking at face to face i guess

What you want is a couple nut. 1/2" to 1/4". Make sure you get the threads correct. Take a tripod plate that fits your camera with you, and the boom pole.

The coupling nut will be female to female. You need to buy that piece as well as a 1/4" threaded bolt and some red loctite.

Basically, what you are going to do is to thread the bolt with no head on it (threaded rod) into the 1/4" side. Do a test fit first to make sure it's going to work, then do it with the red loctite. (*WARNING* When you do it with the red loctite it is NOT coming out.)

Now you'll have a female 1/2" end, and male 1/4" end. Problem solved. Your reducing coupler will look like this:

All told, this stuff should cost $10-$15.

the red loctite is essentially just added assurance that the bolt is not coming out of the threads huh...
thanks so much for your help... ran out of time today but is priority one on my way to work tomorrow

Is he going to be able to find that at Lowes or Home Depot? They have straight rod couplings but

I've never seen reducers ...... it would be great if I didn't have to make them anymore.

lol- i am in arkansas and i have never heard of any of those stores... we have a harbor freight... wonder if they would have it

lol- is that a plug??? you make them??? well i will just send you a pm on the matter then

No plug, I'm just cheap and live out in the boonies. The nearest town is 10 miles away and that's just a coffee shop an a gas station.

It's 75 miles to the nearest HD or Lowes.

I sent you a PM.

ace hardware in town was able to give me something that should work... we got a reducing coupler and then he just cut the head off a screw that will fit in the bottom of the camera and in the coupler

$4 for it all... well not counting the glue for the threads...
have just had an issue though with using the supplied bolt on my zi8... see my other post if you have time and help me out... i think i just cross threaded it and don't want to mess up my t2i as well
