How to review last few minutes of a clip?

Hi,

I recently filmed a series of interviews on my HMC150. Each clip turned out to be about 15-30 minutes. Well, we stopped for an impromptu break and when we came back to filming, my subject asked to see the last few minutes of the last thing they had said.

I tried but could not work out how to do it. Ideally i wanted to get to the end of the clip and rewind, but there is no way to do this. Instead I selected the clip and went fast forward and when it got to the end of the clip it just went back to the clip selection screen.

Any ideas??

"rec check" will only play the last two seconds.

You can fast-forward through a clip at rates between (I think) 4x and 32x fast, so it shouldn't take long to get through a clip.

If doing interviews, one thing you may want to do is assign "index" to one of your user buttons, and then as you're recording, press that button whenever it seems appropriate (like at the start of each new question, or every minute, or whatever works for you). Then when you're playing back clips you can jump from index to index (like leaping around a DVD by chapter). You can also assign indexes after the fact, from the playback menu.

Thanks Barry,

I have played around with the "index" marks but as the interveiws are one-on-one, it becomes a distration to the subject. And the fast-forward doesn't work well since as soon as it hits the end of the clip it just reverts back to the clip selection screen, ie if you missed it the end point and didn't stop in time, then you totally missed it.

It makes me wonder how to do simple continuity checks without having to employ someone to take notes or photos. What a shame because it would be nice to have an impromptu break from the interview, come back after lunch, and then show the last 5-7 minutes of the interview to the subject to get the ball rolling for the next session.

One other option is to download the contents to a laptop and review there, but this doesn't suit my workflow as I carry enough equipment with me to the location and don't want to lug a laptop just to review the last few minutes.

Anyone else have ideas...

Why would the index be a distraction? You could just keep your hand on the button, and then press it whenever a new section started, and they wouldn't even know.

Because I am sitting well behind the hmc150 controlling it from a remote focus and zoom controllers bolted to the tripod arm. To do what you suggest I would have to reach forward to press the button on the camera at a time where I am either asking a new question or when the subject begins to answer it... Either way it would be a distraction.

It's a shame that the HMC150 does not playback like every other player I have had, ie go to the end of the track and rewind. The HMC150 just won't allow it.

I think your work around is probably the best idea, unfortunately it just won't work for me. Instead I'll use my sound recorder and rewind 5 mins and we'll hear the content.

I assume that Panasonic won't include something like this in a future firmware release. Pity as it could help a lot of people across their camera range.

Thanks again
