How do i render a 1920x1080p cineform intermediate ??
It seems to only render 1440x1080i.
1280x720 renders properly.
Can this be done ???

AFAIK, the cineform codec that ships with vegas will only render out 1080 material at 1440x1080. If you wanted to do full raster 1080p you'd need to get neoHD from cineform.

Any Idea how much that costs ????
But even the 1440x1080 render doesnt open out back to its wide aspect ??
Mediaplayer shows it squeezed.

Oh...Thats a lil expensive for me.
Is there a way to get the 1440x1080 file to playback normally instead of squeezed ?

As long as you tell it to use aspect ratio 1.3333, it will be ok. Vegas will recognize it. Don't expect media player to do so too. These files are for editor work, not for casual viewing.

This is not for casual viewing. I was planning to render out an avi wih good quality for playback to hd displays. This is not for vegas editing as i know the codecs primary pupose is to act as an intermediate. I also know how to do it in Vegas. I was inly reffering to playback for serious viewing. Or which other avi codec can give the exact same quality when output from vegas ???

So you say you want to use Cineform on Vegas for editing, and preview on a second monitor that's full HD. Ok, so where is the problem exactly then? Vegas does support the 1.333 aspect ratio, so it should show up as widescreen when you load it inside Vegas again, after you export as such. It does do so here with Vegas Pro 8.0c. Don't expect Windows Media Player to recognize the non-square pixel aspect ratio though. Only Vegas will.

No im not talking about a workflow render so i can edit in vegas. Im talking about rendering out my project to cineform avi as the delivery format. Meaning i would like to render a cineform avi and use that file to playout on multiple hd displays. Ive done it successfully using 720p cineform. This has nothing to do with editing on Vegas. Im talking about the final product file which will be a cineform avi. I hope you get what i mean. I think in my previous post ive stated that its not for Vegas editing. Its for independent playback from another non-editing computer which will send the output to the HD displays for visitors to see when they walk into a store.

The part you don't tell us though is which application will playback these files. If the app is WMP, and you want to display 1080p widescreen, you are out of luck, the aspect ratio just doesn't always stick with the kinds of AVI files Vegas produces, and you will get a 4:3 image instead.

You can't export full 1920x1080 Cineform with Vegas' own Cineform encoder either, you need to buy the $500 official Cineform version to export with their own encoder that allows for higher resolutions and square pixels.

Additionally, using Cineform for delivery, is wrong. It's an intermediate format. I would suggest you go with h.264 at 1080p 18 mbps. Quality will still be good.

So your saying that h.264 at 1080p with 18mbps will match the quality of a cineform render ? Ive found h.264 to be quite blocky when shown on large monitors compared to cineform. File size is not an issue. The system can playback monster files smoothly. EVen Huffyyuv. I thought cineform was the best option because it has sine based compression.

Yes, Cineform is your best option in terms of quality. But as we discussed, the Vegas version of Cineform doesn't export 1920. So if you export in 1440 you will lose quality anyway. So, in that case, why don't you just go with h.264?

If you want to output a high quality 1920x1080 file for final version either use a high bitrate h.254 (that's what you see on BluRay Hollywood movies) or render a PNG AVI file. You can do that lossless or nearly lossless and save a lot of space over huffyuv.

Huffyuv is lossless when you ask it to be so it is necessarily going to offer a more accurate rendition than going with h.264.

A png avi ?? Are you reffering to a image sequence cause im not familiar with a png sequence inside an .avi wrapper. Can you you shed some more light ?

Not much light to shed. If you have Vegas, simply select render to AVI, then customize the choice, and in video codec, you can select PNG. The PNG option allows you to choose the level of compression. You can choose lossless (best) or uncompressed if you like.

Unless my memory is TOTALLY failing me, believe I've done this. I'll verify in a couple hours.

Ok,

I was ABSOLUTELY wrong. My apologies. I had traded video files with a Mac user earlier in the year and though I gave him AVI files. I did not. I gave him quicktime files compressed as PNG.

Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

But wmv will always tend to soften the video a tad bit. Very slightly. But in a situation where i need ultimate sharpness its a second choice. Another problem is that the bit rate rendering in wmv9 is absolutely untrustworthy. I once tried rendering a project to wmv9 with 200 mbps and it played fine. So i tried 300 mbps and it plays too withut stuttering. I dont think it was ever increasing the bitrate at all.
