How to open FCP without connecting scratch disks???

I'm having a problem:

I have two different scratch disks connected to my fcp. I have recently connected the second one, because the first one was close to full. The problem is, FCP won't let me open the program unless both scratch disks are connected. When I try opening FCP when one or both of the scratch discs are disconnected I get following message:

"One or more of your chosen scrach disks cannot be found. Please verify your current selection in the scratch disks preferences."

When I click ok -> reset scratch disks, I can't figure out how to continue without connecting them both.

I was planning on editing a project that's located on my second scratch disk, so I didn't bring the first external harddrive. I have also read somewhere that FCP lets you have up to 12 scratch disks, so I'm wondering how to open FCP without connecting all the scratch disks, since I only need one of them every time?? (AND I cannot loose any info/project on the other disks. Isn't that what happens if you choose the "clear" option in the scratch disk preferences?)

ps. I had the same problem before I connected the second scratch disk too, but then I just connected the one I had at the time and made fcp happy..

When you clock "Okay" to reset scratch disks, you simply reassign your scratch disk locations to the drive that's connected. But you have to do that for every item, both scratch disk and targets for waveform cache, thumbnails, etc.

If you have a second scratch disk on the list, simply deselect it.

and when I try to set the missing scratch disk to the other one thats connected I get
this: "Unable to set scratch disk. That disk is already set as a scratch disk".

So the question is still, how do I manage to open fcp without any scratch disks connected? i'm sure there must be some way?
