I’m trying to decide... the best way to mount a PIX 240 on my Sony FS100.
There are three things I want to accomplish:
1. Have the camera sitting directly above my shoulder.
2. Use the 5” PIX monitor as the viewfinder when handholding.
3. Add a battery to the rig.

The monitor needs to sit at least 13 inches from my eye, so that I can focus with my glasses. This may work with a zoom lens, but the monitor will definitely be in shot, when using a shorter fixed lens.

To solve this problem, I've been toying with the idea of adding a viewfinder to the PIX monitor.
I’ve taken the finder, which is included with the FS100 and temporarily taped it to the hood of the PIX.
My eye now rests approximately 8” from the monitor.

I've been looking at the systems from Berkey Systems, Solid Camera and Zacuto...
In the meantime, I’ve temporarily built a simple system with some Red Rock parts, but I need something much more stable.

Any suggestions?

I'd watch this....

for myself i'd maybe think of having a seperate smaller & lighter VF out front & the 240 recorder mounted on rear rails.
it seems like a lot of weight on your arms with the 240 out front like that, but i'd also bet that Carlos's kit will hold it until the end of time if that's what & where you want it.

I like your set up. Nicely simple. Here are a couple photos of my set up with the top handle I make. If you attach at the handle shaft it can keep the Isreali arm out of wide angle shots better. And you get the handle as a bonus.

Also you may prefer the monitor on the shaft because it's inherently more behind lens. you have 4 inches of vertical adjust and alot of swivel for and aft. if you use your PIX as an EVF you'll put a lot of force against whatever is holding it Our clamps will not move when locked.

and maybe use the Hoodman short VF magnifier, it's all of $50 if i remember correctly, that gets the 240 much close to the center of the camera?

Yes, I've talked with Carlos about this problem...
I may need to add a lighter VF, but it would be a shame... the image on the PIX is wonderful.

Thank you for that site Mico...

I started adding loupes to cameras years ago, with the Z1.
I prefer shooting handheld with the camera balanced on my shoulder.

They're updating PIX the firmware... I understand the new version will have focus.
