How to make your prop gun eject shells

I know that some of you are a lot like me and are making movies but have no budget to do the effect of a machine gun ejecting shells.

:kali:

I came up with a simple trick that you can do to achieve this effect yesterday with the use of cardboard shells and a cleaver angle.

I hope this is helpful.

If you got your hands on some empty brass (easy to find about anywhere people shoot guns) and dropped it on the floor during that shot, the very distinct sound would add a killer sense of realism.

Just an idea.

lol...I kind of thought it looked like a handfull of shells falling off the side of the gun...I think I set my expectations a little high :)

I was expecting flying casings myself... expected some kind of rigged system where the shells were actually ejected. Like you said: expectations may have been high.

Good idea. You shouldn't have any problem finding empty brass. They will reflect a bit of light helping to sell the "realism".

One suggestion: Avoid pointing any weapon at the camera and whenever you are not actually pulling the trigger, always keep your finger off of the trigger-- even if it is a prop gun. Reason: it is good form to do that and shows that you know how to handle firearms. Bad form to do otherwise.

Google "shell ejecting airsoft gun" and you will find some nice gas blow back guns that come with shells that eject as you shoot.
