How to make good car crash

macgregor said:
anyone with any good idea of a crash? Also as the script is note yet very detailed in this point, i need to find a reason why the driver looses control and hits the mountain.

You can easily cut to black and do the job with sound effects.

As for why does he loses control? Well, he wanted to put in another CD, but his 5 disc changer was in his trunk, and he was on his cell phone (talking to a bank's voicemail tree), and he spilled some hot coffee on himself.

OK, he's picking his nose, it starts to bleed, he tries to grab something outta the glove box to stop it ( a hankercheif) he loosses control......the story should tell you something about the character, and why he does what he does....bottom line, it's an accident. Accidents happen because something simply goes wrong.

bambi runs in front he tries to avoid it, a bee stings him, a snake got in his car and bits his leg, something breaks, he wants to kill himself, he's day dreaming, he's not watching the road, etc...... what will help tell the bigger story?

I'm mostly concerned that you're executing this scene without - even as the writer (or director) of the purported film - having any idea of the justification for it?!

I just hope you've spent more time figuring out the logistics through a real professional coordinator than you have hashing out the story behind it.

I'm not trying to be a tool here, but I've been on lots of precision-driving and stunt sets and I'm concerned for your safety. Are you insured (with a general aggregate liability policy of $1Mm), do you have permits, have you arranged for the fire department and medical evacuation from the scene? Oh, God... now I'm going to worry all day.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue!

Good luck macgregor! Mucha suerte macgregor!

Depending on what kind of person the driver is, here are some different causes of the accident:

Showing off to the passenger.
Passenger upsets the driver and it distracts him.
Passenger gives the driver some big news.
Driver is drinking, or already high or drunk.
Driver is trying to scare the passenger by driving erratic.

Other causes:

Motorcycle or hot shot in a sports car coming the opposite way cause them to lose control.
Temporary blindness from a reflection.
Tire blows.
Falling debris from the hill.

hmmm, way off topic, but that place looks perfect for a road gap on a Mountain bike...

Anyhoo, I definitely want to see some shots from this, sounds cool!

I would have it flip and somersault OVER the rail and down the slope. 2 DVXs at least for head on view (what the hell, crash into it ! DV tape should survive) and a skyview downwards of the accident car on a crane. Maybe at least 1 more DVX for a quick view underneath as it hurls over, cutting b4 we see the hydraulics that causes the flipping action.

Why he locks his brakes ? Mountain biker suddenly appearing sounds good, after the driver drops his cigarette down his nether regions and he takes his eyes off the road.

Okay, so he's listening to Dragonstea, and while he's doing the lyrics, the car begins to drift (as he's staring at himself in the rear view mirror) he looks back up and screams, "Jesus is that you?!" but in all actuality its a hairy homeless man. He hits the homeless man and the car tumbles down the hill.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe that you have done all this setup ( if you have ) and can't even figure out a simple point of your script... I mean the whole reason the scene's taking place.. Maybe you should re-evaluate things? just a thought

Hello everyone.
I am not the director nor the writer of the shortfilm.
I am just responsable of doing a very good car crash.
So do not argue that the script is incomplete. It is not and it is not my bussiness. I just want to improve what the script says about this.

Opening from black.
4 people inside a car.
The car crashes.
Cut to black.
Main title.

I will be shooting this wednesday. if everything goes well i will post some grabs. Bye!

Added: also we will have 5 cameras rolling (one inside the car) and a crane. It should work!

Weel, here it is.
We shoot this yesterday, so here it is a small preview of the crash. It did not go as well as it should because the guys with the cameras were very very bad.

I did a quick edit (not the final version at all - you can actually see the cables).

And some footage from the shortfilm:
www.neotokio.org/leland.mov (online in 2 hours).

Bye!

Looks tight! Did you guys decide against shooting an interior to coincide with the crash?

Cheers,

Excellent. Hmmm..... I wonder if the beautiful and supportive Wendy would let me bust up her car.....

:)

Really, I enjoyed it!

I thought that it turned out fine. Did you shoot a clean plate at all? If so you could use that to paint out the cables. My only suggestion is to take out the shot of the over the hood shot, it is rather disorientating, and it took me out of the moment as I had to try and figure out what angle the shot was looking at. Just some thoughts.
