how to make DIY rails (15mm)

Man, there's DIY and then there's making your own rods. Just can't see the value in it. There are good rods all over the web for low cost. There are plate systems on eBay and Amazon.

I really couldn't show up at a gig with that plywood setup, regardless of the craftsmanship it took. And I can't imagine spending all that time in a shop vs. shooting or doing billable things.

Hey, I'm currently hacking together a lockable, focusable, repeatable tilt lens on a rail system (that can use an MF or a Holga to boot)... and a setup to use all my speedotron accessories with video lights. Because those things are simply unavailable (or would cost thousands).

Your rail setup is a hugely personal thing that many people assemble with lots of trial and error and a bin of parts that didn't work out. I get that... but it's just got to be precise. Ever use rods that are just a micron out of alignmnent, and try to get, say, a shoulder mount on the ends without a hammer? Ugh! the web is now packed with individual pieces where you can build whatever you need. Start with a baseplate and a couple rods, and build up from there.
