I thought I would creat a new thread on this specific question.

How do you import clip metadata including SHOT MARK, INDEX into Premiere Pro CS5?

Thanks in anticipation.

Anyone else know how? Barry had recommended to use the shot and index marks. I assume there must be a way to import these into Premiere Pro CS5 otherwise the benefits can only be use "in camera".

Anyone at all have ideas or knowledge on this matter?

They have definite uses in-camera. They should be supported in NLE's, but sadly aren't yet, at least in CS5. CS5 supports the shot mark in P2, it comes into the bin marking the "good" flag. And CS5 supports the User Clip Name in P2, but it doesn't yet support either of those fields in the AVCCAM footage. Which is not only disappointing, it's kind of silly, since the metadata is exactly the same. Maybe we'll get those in a revision to CS5.

So, there is a way to import metadata...but it has to be from the start of your project.

If you use a program like Movieslate (for iOS) that records metadata, you can export that as a batch CSV file.

If you go up to the menu's you'll see:

Project- Import Batch

Programs like Movieslate will let you import the batch metadata. They'll show up as offline clips, and you can just link the media afterwards.

Thanks thatWelshguy!

Pity that Panasonic have included a way for the AVCCAM to upload the metadata (as per my original post) into Premiere Pro. It's a real omisson. I would find it very handy indeed!

Regards.

@davdav I know, it's killer. Using sidecar metadata just doesn't cut it.

I considered batch encoding, but then a new question really surfaces- is it worth it to go through all the trouble for metadata? Or are we just working too hard for the value.

After a lot of exploring and research, I just decided to let it go haha.
