how to import an mp3 in FCP?

you can also drag your file into Peak DV (comes with final cut) then save it as a .aiff or .wav fill, both will work in final cut.

WAV = WAVE

(A simplistic answer) Think "A" for Apple (AIFF). And WAV for PC.
(Although both PC and Mac's will play both types.)

BTW, as said before get QTPro, I use it at least 5 - 10 times a day.

Thanks for the info...

I was asking because I have had problems using aiffs in the past. All my sound designers and composers use .wavs (they use PCs) so I think I will stick with them. Aiffs seem to be worse in my experience. I have never had a single issue with a .wav.

I'm not sure why aiffs were worse. They both support loseless compression.
If you had a app that couldn't deal with a format or you chose to compress an AIFF in an odd compressor that coudl be a problem.

I had trouble going to DVD from Final Cut Pro. The AC3s that I created from .aiffs wouldn't always playback on DVD players... lots of little issues like that. I did exactly the same thing using .wavs and it was fine. I was using Compressor, FCP and DVD SP2.

I stick with .wavs now.

Something doesn't sound right there ... I've been using AIFF's for all of my work (No particular reason, that's just what I chose.) and it has always worked great. From DVDSP 1 through to DVDSP 3 I've never had an issue.

But if WAV's are working for you, and it also sounds like others that you work with use them, then more power to you. I don't think that there is any huge difference between them as they both deliver great files.

A mate of mine had the same trouble with DVDSP. DVDs are just temprimental things really. Sometimes they just do odd things for no reason.

Coffee, I had the same problem with mp3. I purhcased QT pro. It was 30 dollars. I converted the Mpe to aiff and it sounded fine. No more pops.

I did read that using MP3's are the last thing you want to use for quality reasons and the same for converting them.
