How do I import an mp3 music clip to play with my footage?

I just now tried but it made me render it and then it sounded really choppy with pops.

Thanks

import into QT Player.
Export to aiff with options set to be 48k.
Import that into fcp.
Not sure why they have fcp do such a poor job of soudn conversion when they have it in the player.

oh god how do I ask this next one without looking like a complete freaking idiot........ uh.... uh ..... lol When I go under the File menu, the only export feature I see are export library and export list... How do I just export just the MP3 file?

Scottdvx100, ahhhh I was trying to do all of that in iTunes....

Ok , so I opened it in QT but there's absolutely no export feature that I see..... Geez, do I have to do some type of upgrade in QT or something?

Just looked and yeah I think I have to buy QT 7.... Why, I just bought this mac like 3 weeks ago. SHouldn't I have gotten that on the G5?

Go into itunes.

Go preferences > importing -> import using AIFF encoder -> find song in intunes list. control click -> convert to AIFF -> then import that file into FCP.

I know I seem like I'm bugging out over here but I just checked my PC and it has a preferences > importing option but my mac doesn't..... I'm about to throw this freaking this ot the window... lol

Dude, iTunes comes with the computer. Quicktime player also comes with the computer but you'll probably want to upgrade to the Pro version - it's only like twenty buck or so...

Yeah, get QT Pro!

I use it every day! A lot!

Exporting from that is very, very easy, with loads of options - Drag your mp3 into QT and then press option/applely button + E. (or >File>Export).

I always encode to .wav

Is there any difference in using aiffs? I have had problems with them in the past. I stick with .wavs.

If you bought FCP then it should have come with QT Pro and license#.
You can use iTunes (free) but you have to set your prefs and then make sure you set it back again afterr the conversion otherwise when you rip from CD they will be in your new set format.
Open file in QT Player. Go to File -> Export -> select Sound to AIFF (or whatever)
note there's quite a bit of useful conversions. You can output video with a different size and even apply filters among other things. Good for prepping for web.

In itunes you need to change the way itunes imports songs off cd's.

Go preferences and then inport, then in the drop down box, change that to 'import using aiff'.

Then go to the song you want to use in your itunes libary, click it, and then go to advanced menu, then click convert to aiff.

Do an apple find for itunes if it is not on your descktop. better yet, open your main drive and click on applications. there you will see the icon for itunes. drag the icon to you descktop menu. then open itunes. after you open it go to the upper left corner where it reads itunes, click on it and you will see where it say preferences.

Here's my workflow -

Convert it to aif 48/16S using above techniques in iTunes.
Right click on it (as there will be TWO now in your library)
Show file
Drag the .aif out into your project folder
Open FCP
Import
Get back to work.

Very easy -- maybe someone can write an automater for us

QT Pro is the way I go. But it was giving me problems today and I had to convert a song so I used Compressor and that seems to work pretty well as well. I guess there area plethora or ways to convert a file to AIFF!

Thanks everyone... after two hrs of baning my head against this CaptainMench's method worked for me.

I really appreciate your input guys!
