How to give Slow Motion in 60i more of a film look?

Greetings all,

I want to shoot some snowboard scenes and much of the shots i would like to accomplish would be in slow motion. I understand shooting in 24p then doing any slowing down in post is a no-no. 60i is the obvious choice at 1/120 shutter speed, although i'm very hestitant to use 60i cause you loose a lot of the "film" look as in 24p. Is there any way to accomplish more of a film look in 60i?

Your comments/suggestions are much appreciated :)

heres my 2 cents worth, assuming your doing this on a DVX, scene F6 gives you, by default a filmic look not only because of 24pa but the cinegamma and matrix settings, color, detail level, master pedestal etc.
use this scene file except that change in the menu the 24p to 60i so all the filmic look of color and contrast etc. in your slow mo shots are the same as your shots in normal speed 24P.

thats a good idea to change F6 to 60i.

If you can reduce the detail level to -6 or -7, to lessens the harsh edges and when you slow down/deinterlace it to 24p , you get less stair stepping on the edges. you can always match up the footage later in post. Just make sure youre using Cinegamma.

Also if youre using vegas, down load, Mike Crash's smart smoother filter, and use it, but very weak, like at setting 3 or 4. What happens is , when you slow down 60i to 24 progressive frames all the blockie Mpeg like compression of DV comes out, the smart smoother softens these crappy looking artifacts. It helps alot.

Your goin to lose resolution anyway, so dont fret over the subtle loss of rez, from the smart smoother. The over all image quality becomes more pleasing to the eye.

If you shoot with the same settings as your 24p footage, and you slow the 60i footage down to 40% of its speed, it will look like film-style slow motion.

i notice everytime people talk about slow-mo they always slow 60 down to fourty and 30 down to 80. what do you do if you want something in the middle or you are just tweaking a bit. i know what clips i usually want slow mo but how slow i actually want them is always a bit of slowing it then watching to see if i like it like that.
