How to get wireless sound from board

At a wedding the DJ said some guys plug a transmitter directly into their board. I have a Samson UHF Series One lavalier transmitter but it is not recomended for this as it is designed for microphone input rather than a line input and it might not work and/or screw things up. A transmitter designed to plug directly in to the board is $400-$600, is there another way to slice this for less/better money?

You can just ask the DJ to feed mic levels out of one of his channels. (Hopefully he'll know what your talking about) I have been wireless off of mixers for about 2 years for events and weddings. You will need an assortment of connectors though. I always carry a 1/4", a rca, and xlr plug to adapt to my wireless system and never had a problem.

Ever consider plugging in a minidisc recorder? $200-$400. Sync it up in post. The new sony's can do uncompressed WAV files at 44.1K. I'm getting one soon.

I will need a mini XLR to 1/4 plug but nobody carries them becasue it aint recommended. You are using what type and brand of transmitter?

I think a simple and inexpensive solution would be to find a direct box that goes from high z to low z. Check out a Guitar Center or other pro audio store and they should be able to point you in te right direction. Another solution is to hang you lav off one of the speakers, but you have to be careful there as the high sound levels ay overload your mic.
