How to get LUT's preview on set with FS700 + O7Q

Hey guys!

Obviously it's gonna take a little while longer until we get LUT's on set with the Odyssey 7Q. But I need it next monday... So what are my options? I've created a great color grade in Premiere CC 2014 using Film Convert and RGB curves. I can export a LUT from Film Convert but how to preview it on set?

I don't have a laptop that I can install CC 2014 on. Also it's recommended by CD not to offload footage midshoot (right? Is this still a no go?).

I've seen that some people use iPads with LUT's on them, anyone with any experience on this? I could use the footage from FS700 SD card. We use these to make quick test edits on set as we go anyways.

I'm really interested in how people do this on indie film productions with limited resources? Maybe I just need to buy a new laptop...

For less than the price of a laptop, you can buy a dedicated LUT box. AJA has one option(3G, 2k max), as well as other manufacturers. You can load your LUT into this box and send the output to an external monitor.

But if CD will release tomorrow ability for installing custom LUTS into O7Q (as they promise day to day last 6 months), such LUT box become useless.

Useless? hell no!

IF you are only ever going to use the 7Q for previewing your footage on set, maybe.

Realistically though, having a dedicated LUT box or color station on set allows you to control the preview on many monitors and leaves the 7Q to the Ops/cinematographer/DPs. It is a working tool after all, not just a monitor.

when is the next 7Q release supposed to hit? chatter on the boards has come to a halt really... or did they move forum areas?

CD just released a 7Q+ that has the same architecture, just will accept a 4K signal over HDMI...
No mention of LUTs or next firmware updates, apart from the whole 7 family all using the same FW updates.

Did you find a solution easier than buying the LUT box? I'm in a similar boat, and love that new(-ish) update to Epics that allow a different custom LUT on each output, and/or for recording & monitoring. Exactly what CD is needing to release ASAP

New firmware scheduled to ship at the end of next week (not a Monday or Tuesday as usual).

Programable LUTs are not in this one, but we're working hard on getting them available soon.

We brought in a laptop to the set and offloaded the FS700 avchd material to see the footage with LUT's. I think this is the most practical solution at the moment.

We are doing test edits while we shoot to see how the story rolls. Mitch, do I remember correct there was talk about using FS700 avchd as proxy? Specifically that you'd make it possible to match file names? Does the FS700 and O7Q record exactly the same amount of frames from start to finnish?
