How to get dust off the AF100 sensor?

Hey guys, first post, hope you can help me out!

Just noticed a nice big speck of dust on my AF100 sensor. Since it's tucked behind that protective screen, I don't see any way of cleaning it off. Does anyone have any suggestions, or does this have to go back to Panasonic now for factory service? Don't have my manual with me and couldn't find anything online about cleaning it.

Thanks!

It should be impossible for there to be dust on the sensor itself, it's assembled in a clean room and sealed behind the protective glass.

To get dust off, hold the camera upside down (lens port pointing down) and blow on it with a lens blower thing (don't use your breath, you don't want to get spit on the protective glass). Hold it upside down so that when the dust is dislodged it'll fall down and out.

Yep, it's on the inside for sure. I used a sensor swab on the outside protective glass. I can post a photo when I get a chance.

Hi Guys,

Any advice on cleaning the protective glass. Obviously dust and other debris could be a hazard when changing lenses on location. Is it safe/ a simple case of using a sensor swab with some lens cleaning fluid if it gets dirty. I understand that the blower is the first option for dust, but in general, if I have to clean it on location and the blower isn't cuttin' it, what's the process?

thanks,
Grant :)

The best process is prevention. Always keep it capped and the blower should be all you need.

But understand things can happen so if someone does know that would be useful info.....

Man, I have 2 specks of dust on one of my NDs (naturally, it's the "1" position) and I really need to clean it off as well. There's gotta be a way to get in there right? I mean the dust had to get in some way.

A question for Barry: Are the ND filters in a closed sealed cell? I also wondered how they don't become dust magnets as they get moved around a lot! Cheers! Rod

Well I just had a look with the lens off. I didn't realise that the NDs are in free space in front of the sensor. If your specs are on the front face then the blower brush should be worth a try. If the specks are on the rear though, it is probably a service job.

Sent the camera in to the NJ Panasonic service ctr TWICE and the still can't get it off of the ND. Is it just me or does it seem absolutely ludicrous that they'd have to replace the entire CCD block for a speck of dust?
