GH2 How to get clean GH2 output into AJA Ki Pro? (Record & SD card icon on screen)

Complete Noob GH2 question:
I have a GH2 and Aja Ki Pro and would like to take advantage of ProRes Capture instead of AVCHD from the card.

I've read extensively on the AVISynth script and all necessary processing but my question is about capture:
How can I capture to Ki Pro without the various on screen display indicators (SD card and Recording, etc.)? Wouldn't these be captured on AJA Ki Pro when capturing via HDMI output.

My excuses if this has been asked and answered.

Thanks for any assistance.

The GH2 can output a "clean" HDMI signal. It does require toggling it to the correct display mode so that the on-screen display overlay disappears. To completely defeat the on-screen display overlay, you may also need to close the GH2 flip out LCD and/or toggle the EVF/LCD selection. Be aware that even if you get to this point that the intelligent lenses from Panasonic that have contacts for the camera body may show focus information overlay when you adjust focus. Note that this can be overcome by using a lens adapter without electronic contacts, like a Nikon or PL adapter. Note that at this time, only the video from the HDMI, not the video and audio, will be output by the camera. This means that if using the HDMI as a video source, audio will need to be supplied from another source. Be aware that with US models, the only output is 1080i 30 (true 30fps, not 29.97). Also note that "clean" HDMI is in quotation marks because there is debate to the color and image quality actually output via HDMI.

Finally, only the AJA Ki Pro Mini can recognize the output of the camera at 1080i 30 as of firmware version 2.5; the original full size Ki Pro does not yet share the same firmware capability, but will in the future.

In summary, you may find the workflow and quality produced by a dedicated video camera, such as the Panasonic AG-AF100, connected to an AJA Ki Pro Mini, far easier and more suitable to video work. Can you connect the HDMI out of a Panasonic GH2 to a Ki Pro Mini and record something? Yes. Will it satisfy your expectations or needs when compared to connecting it to a dedicated video camera? I can't say...

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the info. We are ordering AF100s, so I will keep the Ki Pro for use with those. So the best way to get footage out on GH2 is via 24p in AVCHD with 24H capture selected? Any advice on ingestion into FCP environment (MPEG Streamclip or other conversion to intermediary format ProRes, XDCAM, etc.)? How can we avoid 'color banding' or having the footage degrade in post?

Thanks again.

Sorry, I can only comment on the information that I supplied. What is best for your workflow with the Panasonic GH2 is beyond my scope to effectively comment on. Hope that makes sense.
