how to fix pixelation with reds and blues

I recently did a shoot where we used multicolored lights in a party scene. The footage looks great except when the light changes to blue or red. I've heard of the problem with reds but can anyone tell me why this happens and if it is fixable. Thanks.

It's not a problem, it's the nature of the beast. The red and blue color channels in miniDV are only 1/4 the resolution of the luma/green channel.

The first recommendation, is view the footage on a TV and see if you even notice the blockiness. Probably, you will not, in which case you don't have to do anything.

If you can see it and it does both you, you can use a number of techniques. A chroma smoother, a deartifact plug-in, or the DV Rebel method, which I find quite nice, just get the DV Rebel book.

play with ur chroma phase and chroma level ..... it will destaruate it more, and u wont get blocks, but u lose color i think.

there is a way to fix it, if say you wanted to go to the web or something.

use color smoother 4:1:1 in FCP however take note that you will have to export the sequence using something other than NTSC DV. something with a better color space.
