can anyone help me with this as I'll be attempting to do this soon, as i have some HD shot footage I'd like to get into my edit. Assuming I have to convert the HD footage to standard def somehow. Thanks.

Are you on Media Composer 5? If you are, load the HD 24p footage into a corresponding HD 24p project. Now close it and open your SD 29.97 project. In your project window, go to the fast menu and choose Open Bin. Navigate to the HD 24p project, select the bin with your footage in it, hit OK. Edit as usual. Avid will handle the frame rate conversion and down conversion for you, on the fly and in realtime (give you have a decent system).

thanks i will try that, i am upgrading to MC 5 soon, currently been using MC3.

im not sure that the HD footage is 24p, probably not, as i didn't shoot the hd footage. The standard def footage is the 24p that's shot on the dvx100b. I assume it's the same instructions just SD instead of HD, i'll give what you said a try, thanks a bunch for your help!

You will want to start the DVX footage in an NTSC 23.976 project. The DVX is not a 24.000fps format. It is 23.976 inside of a 29.97fps NTSC video with 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pulldown cadence.

They said this is hd footage but it is in a mini dv cassette, I tried seeing the footage on my dvx100b but I don't see anything, and so that goes without saying that nothing is being able to be captured into the timeline either.

The camera that was used was a 24p canon hv30 hd camera.

Anyone ideas on how to get this footage captured into the 23.97fps timeline with my other 24p dvx100 footage.

Thanks!

That format is called HDV. It is HD, but uses the same tape format as DV. Same data rate as DV...so that tells you how compressed that footage really is. But yes, you need an HDV deck or camera to play this back. DV cameras or decks won't work...they don't recognize the format.
