How to convert Varicam 24P footage to standard def NTSC and PAL versions?

I'm going to be using Final Cut Pro Studio 2 to convert footage which has been shot at 24P on a Varicam, to standard defintion NTSC and PAL versions. I dont have the actual footage yet but I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice so that I don't end up with stuttering motion in the converted files.
Can I capture the footage at 720 24P and then drop just it into NTSC and PAL sequences? Or should I be using Prores instead? Should I let Compressor handle the conversion - or should I use a Nattress plugin?
So many options, I'm not sure which is the best workflow.
I'd be grateful for any advice received.
Many thanks.

I don't think you will get much out of the extra step of converting to ProRes. I have had great success with Nattress's Standards conversions for the NTSC to PAL stuff (follow his directions closely or there will be some quirky results). That being said, the standards conversion will affect your over all quality.

You could also remove the pull down (making it 24p) and simply increase the speed of the clip by 4% (making it 25p) as long as the 'faster footage' won't be a problem syncing audio.

I have not had great success with compressor's conversions between standards.

Please let us know what you find is the best option.

Definitely get the nattress plugin for conversions both for the PAL and for the 24p to NTSC standard.
