Maybe not. Twelve to one, that equipment was already destroyed. Probably someone did something stupid and ended up in the drink with his/her cameras. Then... all they are good for is pranks.

Decades ago, this happened to a co-worker of mine at the local newspaper. Slipped on a bridge down at that coast and fell into the sound. Three nikons, all with lenses, and two more lenses in his camera bag. All in the salt water. Killed them all just about instantly (but all insured since the equipment was owned by the paper).

He came back, and we used those cameras and lenses for weeks for pranks. They got me (I was like 17, and thought I was going to have a heart attack). My boss. His boss. Half the sports department. Most of the editors. Just about everyone who happened by. I don't know how many times those cameras and lenses got dropped. Including at least once into the print washer in the darkroom. I have never seen a grown man that close to fainting since. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Oh yes... IIRC he did not get the picture that had him leaning over the railing of the bridge. Not for lack of trying though.

I wonder if that submersion and soak technique also works for light kits and mics?

HAHA!:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Been a long time since I actually laughed out loud. Thank you for posting. That was great!

I guess I must really be getting old and grumpy, because I couldn't get past how crappy it looked. BUT then again by the look of things, his cell phone was probably the only camera he had left working. ; )

Ha! Dangerously funny!

...come to think of it, I have some hard drives that need cleaning

Hard drives require special treatment. You need to take the lid off and start with some 60 grit sandpaper to get all the rust off the platters inside. Then you can do the soap and rinse like in the video.

That's nothing...... We once had a Sony F35 smashed with a sledgehammer and then urinated on.

Of course in that instance it was not our doing.
You should have seen the look on the officers face when we suggested they to collect urine samples to try and match DNA. :furious3:
