How strong is this camera?

Has anyone dropped theirs yet?
I remember the story a while back about some dude having his fall out of his backpack at 100 mph or something, can someone link me up to that?
the only reason I'm curious is because i'll be filming skateboarding/bmx, so i want to be sure this can hold up to any potential problems.

Yeah, there was a thread from a few weeks back about one of the members here having it drop out of his back pack while going 100 down a dirt road in South Africa.

The body is aluminum underneath the plastic. And the lens has a shock mount for minor bumps (emphasis on minor). But that's no guarantee that your's would survive the same situation. He may have just gotten lucky.

fortunately I am not able to give you an answer on that cuase I thankfully have not dropped mine yet and I hope I never will

But I can say that tapeless makes it nice since you don't have to worry about tape falling off the heads

I took the following photo at DV Expo:

Hidden under the plastic is a very solid metal shell. Not that I would want to drop the camera, but in the unlikely event you do, there is some solid protection hidden from your view.

no camera is made to take high impact damage (i.e. skateboarding, etc)

not saying that it couldn't, but the point is... it's not made for it, and should not be a factor when choosing which camera to buy. if you plan on potentially dropping it while skateboarding then you should be looking into a different hobby. at the prosumer level there is no camera that is more "sturdy" than another. they are all made well.
