How often

How often do you find the need to use your Canon 70-200 f4 IS or f2.8 IS II in film making? Thanks for any input.

I use my f4 IS for virtually every shoot. It just has a perspective that is appealing when you want to bring the subject in close. Most importantly is allows you to film from quite a ways out. This changes the subjects reaction to the camera significantly. Bringing a wide on a stabilizer right into their face has and effect on people that often ruins the mood completely. A few steps back out of their personal space and they react much more naturally. For narative work a 50mm is plenty. Just move the camera in. For doc type work the 70-200 is indispensible.

Cheers,
Pete

It depends on what you're shooting, and your shooting style. In my case, the answer is "hardly ever". I shoot APS-C. My most used lens is the 35mm, then the 50mm, and that makes about 60% of my shots. Then it would be 18mm, then 11mm, and that's about 80% of the shots already. Then 90mm and 135mm. The 180mm and 300mm, they're nice to have at hand, but I hardly ever use them.
