How noticeably noiseless is the hpx170?

So I am on the fence about purchasing the camera. I currently own the hvx200 and before i plunk down 5k for a new camera. I want to know if the differences between the hvx and the hpx are as diferent as night and day.

I know theres a lot of cool features in the camera. But the one that really means anything to me is less noise. I 've hated the noise in the hvx and the thought of getting rid of it makes me really happy.

I just dont want to get this camera if it only marginally gets rid of noise. Because if thats the case i might as well keep my hvx and save the money.

thanks

damn!!! that is a big difference, Barry you had said that to get a similar noisefree image similar to the 200A, the 170 should have the coring setting at -2 or +2 ??

The 170 has the same noise characteristics as the 200A. The coring settings are different, so I usually run coring at +1 or +2 over what the 200A has in order to compensate.

Uhh, the question was how NOTICEABLY noisy is the 200 vs. 200a & 170.

Most people won't be shooting with the settings used in Barry's test, and definately viewers won't be looking at it under extreme magnification.

So No, I don't think it's NOTICEABLY cleaner unless you are shooting in low light conditions.

Of course I could be wrong. I'll get to compare an HPX170 to my 200 later this week!
