I know somebody that is interested in renting my HVX and I am trying to find out what the daily price should be. Do I ask for a deposit? What about signing a contract? Really I need all the information possible. The package would include HVX200A, 2 batteries, 2 32gb P2 cards, Rode NTG2 shotgun mic, XLR, UV & Polarizer filter. Please let me know what you would ask for and if it is even a good idea. Thanks

Contract - yes, especially if it's a friend.

You need to be clear about exactly who is responsible for what, because it is not a stretch of the imagination that someone will need to pay for repairs/replacement. Also you might notice a noise or a sticky button when it gets back. Maybe you're imagining it, maybe it was always like that, maybe it is a new problem. If it's your personal camera it is going to be personal.

I am an equipment manager at a rental house and let me tell you our HVX's have taken a beating. A lot of that has to do with how popular they are, even still. If they don't have insurance you better get a large deposit. We require an authorization for the full replacement value if they do not have adequate insurance. We rent our HVX's with two batts, charger, D-sub cable, remote, etc. for $200/day and rent the cards separately because everyone's needs are different. I can tell you that what breaks routinely on rental is the headphone jack and the firewire port.

Personally, I rent my HPX-170 for $225/day. If you shop around I think that's comprable and I don't think it's worth it to risk having my camera damaged by somebody for anything less than the going rate.
