How much would you pay for these animated logos?

If the designer makes a living at it and had a meeting to discuss it and has spent time on multiple versions and will spend time finessing the final version it should be more like $500.
It is not just an equation of time spent. It includes the cost of computers, software, plug-ins, insurance, electricity, time, and everything else it takes to run and make a living from a business.
$500 is the bottom price for any of my motion logos but I will make 20 versions by the final including many different final versions.
If you don't like it, learn to make your own and finance your own toys.
If you want something different, ask for a change BUT have a plan and don't waste anyone's time telling them what you don't like but don't know what you want.
I get that all the time and that is why I charge a minimum of $500. That weeds out the folks that can't make up their mind.
Don't take it personally it's just business.
If it's a buddy and it's his play business pay him $250.
Cheers!

thats ridiculous. i dont care how many versions a designer has done, if he's done 20 versions of an animated logo that sucks i'm not paying $500 for it. whether he makes a living from it or not i could care less. if its nice work i'd pay him the same as i would pay a 16 year old geek that's just as good.

i've worked in advertising for over 8 years and we outsource some of the best agencies in the country to do projects we dont have enough time to knock out, and 75% of our clients DON'T know what they want.....that's why they come to us, so we can be the creative solution and create something they want or something that's even better they never thought of. if it bothers you that most clients don't have a clue what they're looking for even after revisions then you're in the wrong business, lol. non-creative people are clueless most of the time, they just want to be impressed and they dont care how much software you used or how many variations you can come up with.

most legit businesses have a policy in place that dont trap you into paying full price for their design work if you're not satisfied.

hey i did this in 2 minutes with relatively no AE experience. using some presets. What i am trying to say that those vids arent worth that much. No offense to the guy who worked on them but dont use them to promote your company. Cheezy for someone willing to charge. mine arent GREAT but then again im not charging for work and want to prove that you can get something way better

what's crazy it's that your version looks twice as better as what was originally posted.

The truth is somewhere between what has been said above. I worked on a few iterations of the Simple Robb logo purely on speculation and have nothing to show for it. About two hours of work in all, including consultation time.

Everything was right and ready - until it came time to pay for the deliverable. Then... nothing.

As many of you know, I've done a great deal of pro-bono work on member's logos here. Occassionally, I'll throw my hat in the ring for sport. I'm a company, but sincerely enjoy this aspect of my work. Still, it is work, and I have obligations. Equipment leases, travel expenses and on and on.

I will just reiterate that the OP hasn't run afoul of me in any way, but he is shopping - for creative services and an end-product. If he were serious about this, he would enter into an agreement in good faith and stick with someone who is willing to deliver goods at the end of the day.

Thanks for the insult Mickey....I've been succesful for 25 years in this business and I love what I do and I have plenty of clients.
So, you're saying you charge $120 to your client for an SD/HD Motion/Still Logo package or is that just what you pay the poor 16 year old designer who doesn't know any better. No wonder designers are undervalued.
'Nuff said.

no insult intended, i just reread my post to see why you felt it was directed toward your work and i see how you may have misinterpreted. i didn't mean "your" work specifically when i was saying i would pay the same amount to a 16 year old kid as i would a designer who has overhead. just a hypothetical situation.

i was speaking in general and my only point is that the fact that a company (again, not your company) would give 20 variations of an animated logo that doesnt look good, etc doesn't make it any better if the work is not impressive versus some kid who knows his stuff and gives me 2 or 3 variations and all of them rock....i'll be more than happy to pay the kid whatever he feels is fair versus paying someone who's inflated their price due to their overhead, cost of software, etc.

as a client i dont want to have to pay for your cost of computers, software, plug-ins, insurance, electricity, time, and everything else it takes to run and make a living from a business for a simple project. hell, what if you own 3 power macs at $3k a piece, $5k of software, $1k worth of plugins, etc and all i want is a simple animated logo and you know how much i'm willing to pay? :) and what if i want another logo for a different company? do i have to pay your water bill, and all the same fees again even though you may not have even used all those resources when creating my project? to be honest it doesn't matter to me how someone runs their business, but as a business and a client i dont think a company should have all these standard charges apply as a standard guide to every project if it doesnt reflect in the finished product.

i never said a price. if i had a $500 budget and you did 20 variations versus a 16 year old kid that stays with his mom, and his work was better then guess what. the kid gets the prize. all that matters to me is how good my finished product looks. i dont care if ET designed it, lol.

Mickey making some GREAT points. Props to mickey.

To be honest your right. Scotman version was nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

you could probably roll with that and fine tune it later if you even feel it needs to be tweaked. if he did that in a matter of minutes or hours with no training then you could probably do the same by downloading the 30 day trial and messing around...or save time and hassle if you're not so computer savy and buy his, lol.

Yeah I contacted Scotman and everything seems great. Thanks Mickey for the advice and help.

I like the Advnced one much better.

How much to charge, give yourself 30-40$ an hour, total your hours, and there you go.

Be sure to include an very specific itemized invoice so the client can look at everything you did and not whine about it.
