Wow, I am very close to LA (an hour or so). How would one go about renting out their camera (sorry for the slight thread highjack). I am trying to save up money for various purchases but yes, how would I go about renting out my DVX?
the way i've rented out my camera is by housing it at a rental house and have them rent it out for me. however i got into this because i have friends are a few rental houses around NYC, i'm not sure how you would approach a company about having them house your gear. every rental house runs out of gear at some point so sub-rentals are common, i'm sure if you were to call a few houses you could get an idea if they would be willing to work with you. i would suggest looking for companies that deal with digital video or reality tv type stuff rather than film or broadcast houses.
another way to rent out your camera is to either make an ad on craigslist or another similar site or look for ads from people looking to rent. i've never done this though, i would be too worried about something happening to my camera or having someone walk off with it.
