how much $$ to replace DV

Since nobody answered my original question, I'm going to assume I mysteriously fried my DV output by using my DVX100A as a bridge to capture VHS footage via an old sVHS camera. i'm getting no signal to capture now in FCP.
anyone know how much it would cost to replace and how to avoid such a thing from happening again?
thanks

i find it odd that "capturing vhs" would tarnish or destroy your dv output. Have you tried outputting with another dv cam to see if your computer detects that? To me (unless you tryed that to problem solve) this sounds like a COMPUTER software or hardware issue.

I believe it's the Mac+hot plugging that fried it. I remember awhile back, Barry Green posted something about it. Basically if you plug in your DVX to a mac while both are on, it has the possibility of frying parts of your DVX. Barry, I THINK recommended that you turn your camera off when you plug it in, and then turn it on once the connection is made. Even if that means you have to restart FCP every time, it's still much safer to do it that way.

dj I remember that post I from memory it was khmuse. If he sees this he is certainly the person who knows. But in the mean time: Basically the same applies when plugging in a firewire cable....... When you have two live ends you can fry. Usually when I plug my firewire into the dvx the pc is on.. however the DVX has no power source connected.
