How much storage do the different HD formats need?

I had a look at that and it claimed that it recorded the same amount of time onto the P2 cards in 1080/25p as 720/25p. Is it just me or does that sound wrong? Also it says that it is 100Mbt/s - I dont understand how that corrosponds to the time they are claiming of 16mins? Any help?

The DVCProHD codec has a maximum bitrate of 100Mbps, so whether you record in 720P or 1080i makes no difference -- the compression is different, but it must still be compressed into the 100Mbps limit.

100Mbps is a little under 10MB/second, so a 8GB card can record somewhere between 13 minutes and 16 minutes. The camera displays the remaining recording capacity based on the capacity of the card(s) that are installed and the current recording mode and framerate.

With two totally empty cards, recording in 30PN mode (what I generally use), I get 33 minutes.

It depends:

Technically,

all non native forms of 1080i and 720p has 1 minute per gig.

720p 30pN takes has 2 minutes per gig.

720p 24pN take 2.5 minutes per gig.
