How much more light sensitive is the EX1?

When compared to HVX or DVX or the well known master the PD170,
will it save half, maybe third of the lightning costs? Is it much better than the cams mentioned in light sensitivity wise.

Thanks,
T

200A and EX-1 are pretty much the same as far as being light sensitive and in the noise department.

Side by side I could ramp both cameras up to about 9dB without taking a major hit to the image.

In comparison to the original HVX200 it's about a half stop or stop faster. Not to mention much cleaner.

Then it's safe to say it wouldn't get me significant savings in lightning dept when compared to Canon XH A1. I refused working with the original HVX when we got the XH A1 almost 18 months ago because of the image quality cost ratio difference. I just thought that maybe the EX1 will save me another half ;)...

Thanks,
T

Kholi,

At what recording setting are you talking about the 200A and the EX1 being about the same? The sensitivity of both cameras change significantly depending on frame rate, progressive or interlaced, and image sized.

If you're saying that a 1920x1080 60i both the 200A and the EX1 are about the same, I'd like to see that footage. Honestly, I'd like to see 1080/24p as well.

My ex1 appears to be as fast or slightly faster than my DVX100. And there are comparitive images on the internet of the EX1 and the PD170.

In my one lamp living room the HVX-200 couldn't make out an image except the lamp at anything but +12dB. And at 12dB the image was so noisy and you could still barely see anything besides the lamp.

With the EX-1 +6dB is clean and you can actually see things in my living room with just the lamp. I'm talking 1080/60i or 720/60p. In 24p mode at 1/48 shutter things look nice and brighter obviously.

I bought this camera for documentary and event work and am glad I did.

This has been my experience as well. I've attached a PNG from my test shoot last weekend. This was taken in 1080/24p, 1/48, +6 db, and a custom picture profile. The name placard read 15.4 footcandles or 165.7 lux.
