How much memory do I need? I'm running short...

I'm currently shooting a documentary with the HVX. I am shooting in 720p. It's our first tapeless project - so please have patience with us.

I bought a 1.5 G-Raid and have shot around 11 hours of footage, and I appear to be running short of memory. Am I doing something wrong? I thought I would be able to fit a lot more footage onto my drive.

How can I get the most mileage out of my drives? Or am I doomed to buying oodles of hard drives? Also, is there a way to do a calculation for memory for around 80 hours of footage?

Thanks. You guys are the best.

you have something wrong with your capturing then....
shooting 720/24p has an average rate of 5MB/sec

5MB x 60secs = 300MB/min
300MB/min x 60mins = 18GB/hr

11 hours should fill up around 200GB
80 hours should fill up around 1500GB

you should have alot more space but dont count on fitting 80 hours in there

and by the way... DV has a data rate of around 3.6MB/sec
and 1080 has around 12MB/sec

hope this helps understand your problem... ;)

LOL, mine says it has 17.0 GB. I guess I need to add a lot more GB. I have never used FCP btw. I've been using another program so next step is to get more hard-drive power.

Memory or hard drive storage space?

What computer and what are you using as a scratch media drive?

What version of FCP?
